Sicily: A 3000 years of History!
Discovering the world through Sicily!
Sicily takes great delight as the first multicultural city in the world, a region historically cosmopolitan having been dominated by Asians, Africans and Europeans.
This distinct Island of Sicily is plentifully rich in art, archaeology, history, folklore and breath-taking scenery and, of course, sumptuous food and wine and excellent golf courses.
It is almost a nation of its own, the cradle of many civilizations, an enchanting land where Archimedes taught and St. Paul preached. It also served as a Greek colony, a Roman province, an Arab emirate and a Norman kingdom. The Phoenicians, Carthaginians, Swabians, Anjous, Aragons and the Jews dwelt in this unique Island, leaving behind an eclectic history one can still feel till this day.
Sicily is, in essence, Europe, Africa and Asia put together in a single Island where Greek Tyrants, Arab Emirs, Norman Knights and Byzantine Bishops once held sway.
Their legacy abounds in the Phoenician and Punic settlements, Greek Temples, Roman Amphitheatres, Arab-Norman Castles and Aragon Churches.
Thirty centuries of history expressed in the Classical, Romanesque, Gothic and Baroque finesse.
Sicily is where the mountains meet the sea.
A sun bathed island, home to amazing beaches, majestic mountains and Europe's largest natural wonder: Etna.
The coasts of Sicily are great treasures lined with orange and lemon trees. The lush forest on "Nebrodi" mountains, in the north-east of Sicily, combines to give the island an incredibly picturesque view.
In the central parts of the island, one marvels at the harsh land and the hills dotting the landscape. This coupled with the vineyards, ancient olive groves, almonds and the endless wheat fields give the island a perfect pastoral setting.
In Summer, the land is amber-coloured under a blue sky. In Winter, the palm trees are covered with snow in a surreal symphony. Spring is a rainbow of wildflowers.
